MISSION STATEMENT
WhY WE ARE in the BIKE business - making exciting bikes affordable
Bikeshelfone has one mission in mind – to increase access to affordable road bikes for people around New Zealand needing bikes for sport, recreation or commuting.
When you buy from us you don't have to worry about the logistics, or trying to persuade a reluctant seller to take their old bike to a shop and arrange a courier, often costing $100-200. And run the risk of getting a damaged bike, or worse no bike at all.
Founder Dave a regular cyclist realised that the cost of cycling was sky rocketing, and that supply of good quality trust worthy steeds was constrained due to Covid19. And was unlikely to go back to normal when lockdowns ended and global supply distruptions dissipated. So he set up BikeShelfOne as a business, so people had a trust worthy source that can reliably and cheaply ship bikes across New Zealand, and also build the brand as sustainability advocate for clean NZ.
Although electric bikes are getting older people back on bikes in large numbers (for a princely sum), and people who haven’t ridden for years are now enjoying recreational cycling opportunities again by hiring E-Bikes. But once back in the saddle they often want a non-assisted bike to ride as well; as E-bikes offer little in the way of Cardio.
Sadly many used E-bikes will end up in landfill due to the cost of repair for controllers, motors and batteries (but hopefully the Lithium batteries will be recycled). Therefore we tend to supply mainly push bikes which are alot cheaper; easily repairable, upgradeable and longer lasting.
BikeShelfOne has grown to become New Zealand's premier 2nd hand bike specialist, based in Taupo and shipping daily to every major region in New Zealand.

BIO - CHIEF BIKE FANATIC
Meet Dave, just a normal bloke; and self admitted weekend warrior. Goes by the moniker Chief Bike Mechanic, but looking closely we see this guy is actually a well rounded athlete, is a regular in the local cycling and tri club, and has done many of NZ great cycling events and Trialthon.
Dave does 10,000kms a year on the bike pretty consistently. He has been biking since he was a nipper (apparently first bike was an old girls one with solid tyres that only lasted a week); although his formative years were spent playing soccer and running Marathons he some how morphed into a cardio bunny in his late thirties.
However only after passing 40 years of age did he find success in Trialthon and in the cycle clubs. And was the local Taupo TriSport Club champ in 2019, and often a contender in B Grade. But his main strength is not in riding, but as a professional buyer and he has become the cycling quartermaster to many an enthusiastic cyclist who either needs some suggestion on how to kit up, or have lost interest with main stream bike shops due to the absorbitant and rising cost of maintaining and equipping the bike for races or training rides. As well as offering advice online, a range of clothing and bike fitting service. He has completed the K2 in the Coromandel, Tour De Ranges Auckland, Rotorua to Taupō 100km Flyer, Cambridge Gran Fondo, The Taupō Cycle Challenge, 70.3/ Ironman Taupō & the Auckland Marathon. Many other 40-55 year olds also aspire to ride these events and need a good modern and reliable road bike or TT bike that doesn't need to cost the earth. When asked why he founded BSO even though he is a successful Consultant in his own right with Masters in both Technical Materials and an MBA. He says "people needed an affordable place to go for a bike, and to could keep their bike running, and add upgrades such as carbon wheels. Since the pandemic ended the prices are still too high for alot of people, we hve always priced without the Covid price premiums!"
His Mentor Guy Howard-Willis founder of Torpedo7 always said there was a massive gap for a secondhand bike supplier in NZ and since he and his son sold Tordepo7 to The Red Sheds (The Warehouse). The high street shops can suffer from a lack of customer focus and cycling shops need to put their customers on the right bikes, rather than a $10,000 E-bike just to make massive profits. Now there is room again for a low cost online supplier of cycling equipment. BikeShelfOne wants to plug these gaps, and supply a loyal army of Bike Shelfers directly with all their cycling needs.
